Invite Me on Your Podcast: Topics I Love Talking About
Podcast hosts, this one's for you. If you're looking for a guest who will talk honestly about the wedding industry, business, money, leadership or building something from scratch, I'd love to come on your show.
I co-host Wedding Empires, which returns in 2027, so I know what it's like on your side of the microphone. You want a guest who's prepared, generous with practical detail, happy to go off-script, and who won't spend the whole episode selling. Here's what I can talk about, and how to get in touch.
A quick introduction
I'm Owner and CEO of The Wedding Academy, which I bought in 2022. It's been training wedding and event professionals since 2004, is 100% online, and has taught more than 11,000 students. Before that I grew a wedding planning business to a team of 18 planners.
Before weddings, I spent around twenty years producing: I was entertainment co-ordinator for Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, created The Burlesque Ball, brought Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School to Sydney, produced a theatre festival and worked in radio. I also founded Business in Heels, a networking community for women in business that grew to around 50 branches in 9 countries before I sold it at the end of 2014.
These days I also coach wedding business owners 1:1, speak at industry events, and have written the eight-book Wedding Handbook series. I'm based in Melbourne and record with shows anywhere in the world.
Topics I love talking about
These are starting points. I'm always happy to shape a conversation around what your listeners need.
For wedding industry and creative business shows
- Booked out and still broke: why full calendars don't equal profit, and how to fix pricing and packaging.
- Why enquiries don't book: the practical sales process that turns "just looking" into signed contracts.
- From creative to CEO: the mindset shift from doing the work to running the business.
- Hiring your first team member: when, who and how, from someone who built a team of 18 planners.
- Writing eight industry books: what I learned turning a school's knowledge into the Handbook series.
For business, entrepreneurship and leadership shows
- Buying an established business: what it's like to take over a school with a twenty-year history, and why I'd do it again.
- Building and selling a community business: the lessons from growing Business in Heels across nine countries.
- Reinvention: moving from events and entertainment into weddings, education and publishing.
- Online education: what running a 100% online school teaches you about how adults learn.
For events, arts and production shows
- Producing at scale: what Mardi Gras and The Burlesque Ball taught me about running live events.
- Why production skills make better wedding businesses.
I'll bring the practical detail your listeners can use on Monday morning. I'll leave the hard sell at home.
What you can expect from me as a guest
I take guesting seriously because I know how much work goes into every episode. Here's my side of the deal:
- Preparation. I'll listen to your show, read your brief and come with stories and frameworks relevant to your audience.
- Practical takeaways. Steps, examples and specific advice, not vague inspiration.
- Honesty. I'm happy to talk about mistakes, money and the hard parts of business.
- Good audio. A proper microphone, a quiet room and a reliable connection.
- Promotion. I'll share the episode with my audience when it goes live.
- Flexibility. Interview, conversational, solo-style deep dive or a panel. Whatever suits your format.
If you'd like to see how I think about the guest side, I've written about how wedding pros can pitch themselves as podcast guests and what co-hosting a podcast has taught me.
Who I'm a good fit for
I'm a good guest for shows whose listeners are:
- Wedding planners, stylists, florists, celebrants, photographers and venue teams.
- Creative small-business owners who want to earn more and work smarter.
- Women in business and leadership.
- Aspiring event professionals and people changing careers.
- Entrepreneurs interested in buying, building or selling a business.
I'm probably not the right fit if your show is aimed at couples planning a wedding and you want décor trends. I'd rather point you to the right person than give your listeners a weak episode. That said, if your audience is engaged couples, I'm happy to talk about how to choose and work with wedding professionals, which is something I cover in The Couple's Wedding Planning Handbook.
For hosts outside the wedding world
You don't need a wedding audience to have me on. Weddings are simply a brilliant lens on small business: emotional customers, fixed deadlines, seasonal cash flow, creative people learning to lead and sell. Whatever industry your listeners work in, the lessons on pricing, systems, hiring and community translate directly. I'm happy to keep the wedding detail light and focus on what's useful for your audience.
How to invite me
Send me a note through my contact page with:
- Your show name and a link.
- Who your listeners are.
- The topic or angle you have in mind (or ask me to suggest one).
- Your recording format and rough timing.
I'll get back to you with a few ideas. If you're organising a live event rather than a podcast, my speaking page is the place to start.
Episode ideas, ready to go
If you'd like a head start, here are a few episode angles hosts can use as they are:
- "The pricing conversation every wedding pro avoids": a practical walk-through of costing a package and raising prices.
- "What I learned buying a 20-year-old business": due diligence, culture, legacy and the first year as owner.
- "From Mardi Gras to weddings": what live event production teaches you about wedding days.
- "Writing eight books in one series": how to turn expertise into a product people can learn from.
- "Hiring for character": building a team of planners who care as much as you do.
Each of these can be pitched to beginners or experienced business owners. Tell me who's listening and I'll shape the detail.
