Also … Our friends at the Australian National Academy of Music are presenting Haydn’s admired opera Orfeo as their final performance of 2009. Soprano Sara Macliver and tenor Steve Davislim will perform a selection of arias and duets at the South Melbourne Town Hall at 8pm on Thursday 3 December. The performance will be directed from the cello by ANAM faculty musician Howard Penny and will feature the orchestra of the Academy. Composed in 1791, Orfeo is based upon the myth of Orpheus, who travelled to the underworld to rescue his wife, Euridice. Remarkably, the opera was never performed during the composer’s lifetime and remained that way for almost 150 years after his death. Tickets are $50 full & $25 concession but supporters of The Butterfly Club are able to obtain a 10% discount. Simply call Ticketmaster on 136 100 and quote ‘ARTS PARTNER OFFER’. |
